Cork & Kerry – Beara Peninsula, The Ring of Kerry & Dingle – Guided Walking Tour in Ireland – 8 Day
This tour shows off the best of Ireland’s amazing landscape and mountains, wild cliffs, broadly sandy coastlines, secluded cottages, lowland sheep and ancient archaeology. You will experience the surroundings of scenic villages, and tap your toes to traditional music while being submerged in the culture of the South West of Ireland.
Itinerary
DAY 1 DUBLIN TO THE BEARA PENINSULA
You will be picked up at Dublin Airport at 10 am. On the way to the Beara Peninsula in Cork, we will stop to visit the Rock of Cashel and will explore the ruins and the town of Cashel for about an hour.
DAY 2 DURSEY ISLAND Distance: 10.5 km, Ascent: 260 m, Waling time: 3 hrs
The first walk starts on Dursey Island, a small island which is serviced by Ireland’s only working cable car. The cable car carries six passengers or one cow at a time. Cows have priority over people here so you may have to wait. Dursey Island is a wild-bird and whale sanctuary and the perfect start to your holiday.
DAY 3 BEARA ISLAND & THE BEARA WAY Distance: 12 km, Ascent: 240 m, Walking time: 3.5 hrs
A short farry ride will take us to Beara Island. This is an fascinating place, with tons of ancient myths and many standing stones and stone circles. This island is also a sanctuary for wildlife. Our walk follows the Beara Way along gentle country tracks offering spectacular views that have be seen to believe.
DAY 4 MUCKROSS HOUSE & GARDENS
Day 4 we depart the Beara Peninsula and County Cork, walking over Healy’s Pass to the famous greenery and sing-song voices of County Kerry. In the afternoon we will visit Muckross House, Gardens and working farm situated in Killarney National Park. The rest of the day is free for you to explore Killarney, our home for the next two days.
DAY 5 GAP OF DUNLOE Distance: 15 km, Ascent: 280 m, Walking time: 4 hrs
This walk starts at Kate Carney’s Cottage and takes us to the Black Valley. Here we will find incredible rock formations, a wild and rugged glen, quarry lakes, small waterfalls and landscape that is unbelievable. We will join the Kerry Way walking trail through Derrynahierka Oak Forest, ending at Galway’s Bridge on the Ring of Kerry.
DAY 6 DINGLE PENINSULA Distance: 8 km, Walking time: 2 hrs
Next we go to the most western point in Ireland, the Dingle Peninsula. The peninsula is full of ancient ruins, broad green and blue coastal landscapes, music, and craic. We walk through traditional methods of turf cutting using the sleán in the low bog as we walk along Inch Beach.
DAY 7 THE DINGLE WAY & BRANDON POINT Distance: 10.5 km, Ascent: 516 m, Walking time: 3 hrs
Our walk starts outside the village of Cloghane on the Dingle Way and leads us through an area where turf is harvested the traditional way. We will follow an old bog road to an area known as Sás Creek, a astounding horseshoe bay which is surrounded by 300-meter sea cliffs. Our trail continues to Brandon Point, passing some pre-historic beehive huts and settlements to end our day in Brandon Village.
DAY 8 DEPART
We depart for Dublin Airport early to arrive at 3.00 pm – 4.00 pm.
