Ireland – Wild Atlantic Way – South-West Ireland – Guided Walking Tour – 8 Day

 

This tour covers part of the 2,500km Wild Atlantic Way. The route takes you through Cork, Kerry and Clare counties along the south-west of Ireland. This adventure will take you to Cobh, the last stop for the Titanic, the untouched beauty of sheepshead peninsula, the ancient archeology of the Beara peninsula, then up to the fascinating dingle peninsula, finally ending the tour at the incredible Cliffs of Moher. 


Itinerary

DAY 1 PICKUP IN DUBLIN

Our tour starts from Dublin Airport at 10 am. You will be met by your guide and transported  to Cobh in County Cork.

DAY 2 THE HISTORY OF COBH

In the morning we will take a short walk around the village of Cobh before a historical walk along the Titanic Trail. In the afternoon we will take an easy 4 km walk in Tracton Woods. Here we will have an opportunity to learn about the wildlife of this area before going to Bantry where we will stay overnight.

DAY 3 SHEEP’S HEAD PENINSULA Distance: 6 Km, Ascent: 210 m, 1.5hrs

The Sheep’s Head is a tranquil peninsula which is one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland. The first half of the day we will take a scenic drive to the tip of the peninsula, stopping for photos and pure enjoyment of the beautiful views. Next we’ll drive the north side of the Peninsula and end our day on the Beara Peninsula in the  village of Allihies.

DAY 4 BEARA PENINSULA Distance: 4 km, ascent: 200 m Walking time: 1 hr

This trail takes us to the south western point of the Beara peninsula. We will walk the sea cliffs to Garnish pier and strand. Next we’ll head towards Kenmare. We will stop in Castletownbere where we will visit the 3,000-year-old Derreenataggart Stone Circle. In the bustling town of Kenmare, we will have some time to explore the local shops before heading on the Wild Atlantic Way to Waterville.

DAY 5 SKELLIG MICHAEL OR VALENTIA ISLAND

Depending on weather we will go to Portmagee on a 12 km boat ride to the famous Skellig Michael. Please note, the ferry trip is €50 per person and is not included in the tour price. If weather is not on our side we can visit Valentia Island and see the Tetrapod imprints which are thought to be from Devonian times. We will travel to Killorglin where we will stay overnight.

DAY 6 DINGLE PENINSULA Distance: 8 km

Our walk takes us to Inch Beach. This is a very relaxing and simple walk. Next we will visit the famous sites that dot the peninsula, including Minard Castle, the Great Blasket Centre, An Riasc (an early Christian centre) and more. We will stay overnight in the bustling town of Tralee.

DAY 7 CLIFFS OF MOHER Distance: 7 km, Ascent: 80 m, Walking time: 2hrs

Today we visit the Cliffs of Moher, the highest sea cliffs in Europe. Here we will have a 2-hour walk to the cliffs including Ó Brian’s Tower. Next we will visit the famous Poulnabrone Tomb and do a walk on the limestone pavements of the Burren landscape. We will stay overnight in The Burren, County Clare.

DAY 8 DEPART

We will head for Dublin arriving at about 1 pm.
