Ireland – Sheep’s Head Way – 6 Day – Independent Walking Holiday


The Sheep’s Head Peninsula is in the south-west of county Cork. It must be the least visited part of Cork which adds to the remarkable personality of such a particular place. The highest point on the is Seefin Hill at 345 m.



You can also arrive in Dublin or Shannon airport but it will be a longer bus ride. Bantry town the ideal location to start your journey in Ireland’s southwest. It sits in the bay that separates the Sheepshead and Beara peninsulas.

DAY 2 BANTRY TO GLANLOUGH Distance: 16 km, Ascent: 280 m, Walking time: 4.5 hours

On the first day you will walk from Bantry to Glanlough viewing Bantry Bay and Whiddy island. On the trail you will walk on a gorgeous ridge before making your way down into Glanlough.

DAY 3 GLANLOUGH TO KILCROHANE Distance: 13 km, Ascent: 385 m, Walking time: 4 hours

This walk gives you the choice to follow Gortnakilly ridge up to Seefin Mountain, the highest point of the peninsula, or you can follow the lower path. Both paths end up in Kilcrohane village.

DAY 4 KILCROHANE TO DURRUS Distance: 17 km, Ascent: 280 m, Walking time: 5.5 hours

Today’s trail takes you along unruffled trails and meandering roads to Durrus. You will see standing stones, wells and burial grounds, signs of the activity from pre Christian times.

DAY 5 DURRUS TO BANTRY Distance: 17 km, Ascent: 190 m, Walking time: 5 hours.

On the last trek to Bantry, you move away from the coast and climb Barr na Gaoithe, the travel down small country roads into town, through the gorgeous grounds of Bantry House.


Depart from Bantry, and begin the journey home.
