Ireland – Wicklow Way & Dublin City – 8 Day – Independent Walking Holiday
The Wicklow Way, also known as “The Garden of Ireland”, is Ireland’s oldest waymarked walking trail. It displays some of Ireland’s most pleasant views including Powerscourt Waterfall, Luggala, Loch Dan, Glenmalure and historical Glendalough. The Wicklow Way walking trail extends from Marlay Park in Dublin to Clonegal on the borders of Wicklow and Carlow. We offer a number of tours on the Wicklow Way for all types of outdoor and fitness fanatic. The last two days are spent exploring Dublin, the capital of Ireland, a city full of history, culture and charm.
DAY 1 TRAVEL TO AUGHRIM
Arrive at Dublin Airport and take the train or bus to County Wicklow. You will be picked up at Rathdrum Train Station and transported to your first accommodation on the Wicklow Way.
DAY 2 IRON BRIDGE TO THE VALLEY OF GLENMALURE Wicklow Way: Distance: 14 km, Ascent: 520 m, Walking distance: 4 hours
Croghanmoira Mountain: Distance: 15.5 km, Ascent: 460 m, Walking time: 4.5 hrs.
Your walk on the Wicklow Way, you have an option of hiking trails. You can stay on the Wicklow Way or hike over Croghanmoira Mountain (664 m). The Wicklow Way Trail: This section of the Wicklow Way is mostly forest track and country roads. You will have sweeping views over the plains of county of Carlow and across to Wicklow’s highest mountain, Lugnaquilla. Croghanmoira Mountain: This walk takes you on a little more difficult trail, but you will be rewarded with incredible views. Both walks finish in the beautiful valley of Glenmalure.
DAY 3 GLENMALURE TO GLENDALOUGH Distance: 14 km, Ascent: 450 m, Walking time: 4 hrs
The first part of trail takes you out of Glenmalure. The countryside will open up to show some unbelievable views of a remarkable landscape. The second part of your walk takes you between Lugduff and Mullacor Mountains where your decent starts to the Glendalough valley. The trail takes you down to the valley floor where you will have a chance to explore both lakes and the 6th-century Monastic Settlement. You will stay overnight in Glendalough or nearby Laragh.
DAY 4 GLENDALOUGH TO ROUNDWOOD Wicklow Way: Distance: 10 km, Ascent: 250 m, Walking time: 3 hrs
Scarr Mountain; Distance: 15 km, Ascent: 520 m, Walking time: 4 hrs
You have the choice to stay on the Wicklow Way or take a trail across Scarr Mountain. The Wicklow Way takes you across the side of Paddock Hill, where you will have grand views back over Glendalough and the village of Laragh. The other trail across Scarr Mountain is amazing, but is a little more difficult. The views from the summit are impressive, Both trails finish in the lively village of Roundwood.
DAY 5 ROUNDWOOD TO ENNISKERRY Distance: 18 km, Ascent: 600 m, Walking time: 5 hrs
You will walk over the side of Djouce Mountain and along the Powerscourt Estate, where there are great views over Powerscourt Waterfall, Ireland’s longest waterfall. Tonight you’ll stay in Enniskerry Wicklow’s delightful villages.
DAY 6/7 ENNISKERRY TO MARLAY PARK Distance: 17 km, Ascent: 150 m, Walking time: 5 hrs.
The final section of the Wicklow Way takes you over Prince William’s Seat where there are striking views over Dublin, the Irish Sea and back to the Wicklow mountains. Your trip ends on a trail that leads into Marlay Park. You can take public transport from right outside the Park entrance to Dublin City Centre, which is where you’ll stay the next two nights.
